FX Hybrid Slugs HP 5.5mm 22gr – heavy air rifle ammunition for long distances

The FX Hybrid Slugs combine the best of both worlds: the stability of a pellet with the penetration power of a slug. These 5.5mm projectiles weighing 22 grain are specifically developed for powerful PCP air rifles from 40 joules upwards. Thanks to their hollow point design and hybrid shape, they fit perfectly in the rifling of modern air rifle barrels, resulting in consistent and accurate shot patterns at distances of 75 to 100 metres.

Our experience from the Shogun team

We have extensively tested these FX Hybrid Slugs and are impressed by their flight stability. The low ballistic coefficient ensures that the projectiles retain their velocity better than traditional pellets, which is especially noticeable at ranges beyond 75 metres. Wind sensitivity is significantly less than with standard pellets of comparable weight. The hollow point design provides excellent energy transfer on impact, making these slugs particularly suitable for rat and pest control at greater distances.

Technical features in practice

With a caliber of 5.5mm and a weight of 22 grain, these slugs are on the heavier side for this caliber. The lead projectile has a hollow point bullet shape that ensures controlled expansion upon impact. The packaging contains 100 pieces, sufficient for extensive testing sessions. Due to the larger contact surface with the barrel, a PCP system is required – these slugs are not suitable for break barrel or pump-action air rifles because of the required energy and barrel pressure.

In many cases, an exemption or hunting licence is required, and this is only permitted for recognised pest controllers or certified users.
